In doing photography at workshops that involve personal growth and spirituality, I attempt to record moments where the soul or spirit comes through the personality—where people are expressing openness, loving, rapport, or inner attunement. I call this process “spiritual photojournalism”. If god is love, there’s evidence of god all around us in the form of human beings. But because of fears or habit patterns, people don’t always allow their love to come through their physical body. They keep it deep inside. Sometimes they open up to letting god or spirit or love (or whatever you call it) reveal itself. They’re not doing anything remarkable. They’re just being themselves and letting that express. Watching it is like watching flowers opening. Capturing it is a challenge and a joy, requiring me to open up as well, in a flow that has similarities to dance.
